Global partners who live in communities affected by Canadian mining are asking us to do something to address the serious human rights violations they endure for defending their lives and livelihoods. The Canadian government has repeatedly failed (for more than 10 years!) to create any kind of real mechanism that would demand accountability for these abuses or remedy for those impacted. Nenita Conduz is small in stature and pregnant with her third child. She is also courageous and defiant. This tiny mother is leading her Subanen people in the struggle to defend their ancestral land in the southern Philippines, where a Canadian owned mining company is harming their land, their community and their way of life. Because of her commitment to speak truth, Nenita lives under constant threat. Nenita recently visited Canada, as one member of a delegation of 5 leaders


National Gathering 5 weeks Away!
In just 5 weeks, members and allies of the United Church will meet at Sandy Saulteaux Spiritual Centre in Manitoba to deepen our understanding of the impacts of Canadian mining around the world and in Canada and take action for mining justice. Throughout the weekend, we will hear from guest speakers from First Nations Women Advocating for Responsible Mining and the Council of Churches in Zambia, and others, and take actions to make the extractive sector more accountable.
